Throughout the month of February, we’ve seen protest after protest. Although they are starting to get smaller in size, it’s remarkable to see the perseverance of the Romanian people demanding an awakening in the country. People of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life came to stand in the gap for the people in Romania.
For me, this was all a new experience. I woke up on morning to have received several messages from friends around the world asking if we were safe. To be honest, I didn’t know why I wouldn’t be. I’ve lived in Bucharest for almost a year, so why would there be a concern now. We looked on the news to find that there was a mass protest downtown, where some people cause disruptions and injuries were caused. There were estimated around 150,000 outside the Prime Ministers office in Bucharest alone.
Not going into too many details, people were demanding democracy. An end to the corrupt government. I’ve heard some say that this is the greatest protest since the fall of communism in 1989. People gathered together and chanted… “Trezește-te România”, translated as “Awaken Romania”. Personally, this was the most powerful statement made at the protest.
Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. Romans 13:11
Şi aceasta cu atât mai mult, cu cât ştiţi în ce împrejurări ne aflăm: este ceasul să vă treziţi în sfârşit din somn, căci acum mântuirea este mai aproape de noi decât atunci când am crezut. Romani 13:11
Last year our church had a focus theme for the year, AWAKENING! People all across the world have been watching Romania. We have the world’s attention. It’s our desire to see Romania awakened with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Although people are asking for freedom in their country, I believe that only through Jesus is there freedom and liberty.
Awakening is defined as, (adj.)
As people cry for an awakening in this country, I too cry for awakening in the hearts of the people.
